Rapper Daz Dillinger, who is part of Tha Dogg Pound, has filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Death Row Records and its chief, Marion "Suge" Knight, in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The complaint, filed Wednesday (Aug. 1), is also for intentional misrepresentation, negligent misrepresentation, conversion, unjust enrichment, declaratory relief, demand for accounting, and constructive trust.
According to the suit, between 1993 and 1999, when Dillinger's (real name Delmar Arnaud) star was rising, "Death Row and Suge Knight exploited Daz shamelessly. They collected tens of millions of dollars in record sales and royalties. They violated agreement after agreement, each time promising to honor the new one. They never gave accounting to Daz, and failed to pay his rightful royalties, all the while holding him hostage to unconscionable and unenforceable agreements."
"But greed knew no bounds at Death Row," continues the suit, "and each of the prior agreements, though ridiculously favorable to Suge Knight and Death Row, was breached by them."
Dillinger then claims that in 1999 he was "bullied into" a new contract "which purported to allow for his freedom from creative and financial captivity at Death Row." Dillinger is seeking more than $2 million, to be determined at a jury trial.
The rapper's last album, Long Beach 2 Fillmoe, was released in January on Black Market, while Tha Dogg Pound's latest album, 2002, hit stores last Tuesday (July 31).
